The ESRS E4 requires companies to report which of their sites are in or near biodiversity-sensitive areas. This raises two key questions: What defines a biodiversity-sensitive area, and when exactly is a site considered to be "near" one?
There isn’t a simple, universal answer to these questions. However, our research on the proximity issue has revealed the following insights:
These varying approaches highlight the need for careful consideration when defining proximity to biodiversity-sensitive areas.
